Classroom Floor Plan and Seating Chart Creator

With our interactive Classroom Floor Plan Creator , teachers can easily plan and adjust the layout of their classroom without having to physically move anything. Once they've found a layout they're happy with, they can create a seating chart of students that will be valuable not just for themselves but any substitute teachers. Get started today by creating a Gynzy account .

When you open the classroom floor plan creator, you'll be prompted to select a "group" or class, assuming you haven't already added students. To start adding students, click the blue icon and select "Open Groups & Students." From here, you have two options. You can either sync with your existing Google Classroom account, or you can manually add classes or "groups" and students.

Once you've created your first "group" or class, you can begin adding students. Once you've added all the students in your class, you can navigate back to the floor planner by clicking the orange swirl on the bottom-left of your screen. Congratulations – you are now ready to begin creating your virtual classroom seating chart!

Build Your Virtual Classroom

You can get started building your classroom by scrolling through furniture on the image gallery on the left side of the screen. The adjustable slider next to it helps you size the images you pull out of the gallery.

Once I've created my classroom, I'm ready to start seating my students. To do this, just click to the Students tab in the image gallery where you grabbed your furniture from. You can then start dragging names to the appropriate seat. Pro tip: To help arrange your classroom, pull up a grid by clicking the Templates icon (represented by the lined paper) and choosing Squares.

Once you've created your seating chart, be sure to save it so substitute teachers can access it if necessary. To save a lesson, click the blue folder on the bottom right of the screen and hit "Save As." I named my seating chart Test Seating Chart, but you might consider making and saving separate seating charts for each class or cohort you teach.

Planning Your Seating Chart Has Never Been Easier

One advantage of using this tool is it lets you experiment with different classroom layouts without having to actually move furniture. It also is helpful if you teach multiple classes. To help keep track of your students, try adding another page to your seating chart for every class you teach (which you can do by clicking the plus sign on the bottom-right of your screen). If you do teach multiple classes, it's recommended to create multiple student "groups" in your Gynzy account, but it's not necessary.

The seating chart can also be used in combination with our Attendance Tool so that managing your classroom is easy and convenient, no matter where it takes place. And once you've entered student names into Gynzy, you can use our Group Maker to automatically place students into pairs or groups for activities.
